Hawaiʻi Department of Taxation Warns Taxpayers Regarding “Loan Transfer” Scam
HONOLULU – HONOLULU – The Hawaiʻi Department of Taxation (Department) is cautioning taxpayers about recent scam activity in Hawaiʻi claiming to come from the Department.

Maui County Surcharge on General Excise Tax and Rate of Tax Visibly Passed on to Customers, Effective January 1, 2024
On July 19, 2023, Maui County enacted Ordinance No. 5551, which authorizes the imposition of a county surcharge (CS) on general excise tax (GET) for Maui County at the rate of 0.5%, beginning on January 1, 2024 and ending on December 31, 2030.

To make a Loan-Out Company General Excise Tax (GET) withholding payment click on the “E-Services” tab above and click on the link https://hitax.hawaii.gov/. Sign-in into your HTO account, select “More…” tab, under “Payments & Returns” tile, select “Manage Loan-out Payments (Film Credit),” or under the “Payment” tile, click on the link “Make a Loan-out Payment (Film Credit)”.
